The Generation theory

i stopped going to meetings a year or so back for a variety of good reasons,but now im out,i am absolutely baffled at myself for just accepting in 1995(i think it was) the new "light"on the generation that will not pass away!basically,of course everything i had been taught, was tied up with the 1914 generation still being around when the end arrived,then it was out the window!.

what a weird new teaching that was!even weirder..no-one batted an eyelid!!.

my question is...if you were in the religion back then,did you just accept it ,no questions asked ,like i did?

sooner or later every jehovah's witness encounters an intelligent person with facts at their disposal who can unload something that causes a doubt.

naturally, you defend against it.

but, the wind has been knocked out of your belief-system however briefly.

The last Meeting i went to the Public talk was "godly view of sex and marriage"(that old chestnut!) and it was conducted by a twice Married elder with two Disfellowshipped Kids...these things happen of course,but i just thought that that was too bizarre for words!probably best described as the straw that broke the Camels back tho.....

JWs and 9/11

i couldn't find anything using search, so maybe somebody just needs to point me in the right direction.

but i don't remember any discussion about what jws thought was happening when planes started flying into buildings and the hysteria in the nation began to build.

i do know about the reaction of the watchtower, locking their doors against people in need.

Blondie. Whilst i speak from relative ignorance regarding 9/11 and any involvement of Jw,s i seem to remember some of the Fire fighters themselves were Witnesses and some even died?

The Brooklyn Bethel Tour (i went last Year)did seem to focus primarily on the role of Elders /pioneers etc who were affected or involved somehow,i agree.But it seems that almost everyone on the Tour was interested in the disaster and what happened that Day...many first hand accounts were mentioned in some detail re.witnesses and the relief effort that took place almost immediately,surely if that was all Lies,somebody somewhere would raise questions and a scandal would (quite rightly)ensue?I simply cant accept they would Lie about the efforts they were involved in.

I cant understand why those two articles put up by Blondie would make anyone sick? seems to me that the Witnesses were doing just as much to help theyir fellow Man as anyone else.Why attack them for that.

Wow Englishman...last time you went out was a while back eh!I can remember them being 5p for the two when i was very young.I also remember 1992 or 93 (i forget)when the new arrangement started in the UK...all Elders and Ms were sworn to secrecy for about a Week!I took a perverse pleasure in not disclosing to anyone what the "new"information was...of course everyone was desperate to find out....

One rumour doing the rounds was that we knew the Date of Armageddon!

Illustration of burning cities while JW's rejoice?

i remember once seeing an older watchtower publication, i believe it was a study book from the late '60s or early '70s, in which one illustration showed a city with large buildings in the background, all burning and in ruins.

in the foreground, a group of well-groomed jw's smile joyously and raise their arms in praise to jehovah, apparantly thanking him for destroying civilization, but at least allowing them to live.

the picture was a little unsettling at the time, and now with the threat of terrorism, even more so.. does anyone remember which publication this image was from?

i did not know where most of my schoolmates lived, but i knew they were out there... somewhere.

i dreaded the thought of a door opening to a face i knew from school.

it was like walking through a minefield for me... every door was like another step... would my next step be my last???

yep,every Saturday morning my heart used to sink when we,d receive certain roads to "work".I used to try hide behind the Adult if 1 came to the Door and i perfected the Art of staring at the Pond or whatever else was in the Garden while they went to get Mum or Dad.Funny thing was, i was recognized a few times but never got too much grief.

The very worse time was being dragged out on Xmas Day (cheers Dad!)and a householder went into 1 about us kids missing Xmas.What does Dad do...in his wisdom he asks me to explain why we dont have Christmas and why i dont want to celebrate it!All this to the parent of a Class mate,while he was in the background sniggering with his sister.I was 8.

To be fair to the old Man,he is constantly apologizing for the upbringing and recognizes that the Fundamental approach was a BAD idea.
